Manicures and pedicures – for beautiful hands and feet

Our hands and feet play a big role in our everyday lives as we rely heavily on them every day. We need to take special care of our hands as they are often exposed to water and cleaning products, as well as cold air in winter. The same applies to our feet, which carry us through our lives. A well-kept look with immaculate hands and feet boosts your well-being and helps you make a positive first impression wherever you go. So why not treat your hands and feet to a professional manicure and pedicure in the comfort of your home!

What is hand and foot care all about?

Hand care, also known as a manicure, is about providing cosmetic care for your hands. A big part of this is taking care of your skin and nails. Your hands are often exposed to a wide range of influences, which puts them under stress. As a result, caring for your hands involves lots of different steps: Bathing your hands in soapy water, filing your fingernails, removing dead cuticles, and then polishing and painting your nails. You can apply a moisturising skin cream to your hands to care for your skin – this will keep your hands and nails healthy and looking beautiful and will enable them to regenerate most effectively.

Foot care, also known as a pedicure, is also good for your well-being and helps you to look immaculate. However, the pedicures that are available from a nail salon or that you can do at home are not the same as medical foot care, which includes a lot more. A pedicure is all about looking after your toenails – they are trimmed and filed and can then be painted. A pedicure also removes calluses, ensuring your feet feel beautifully soft as well.

Which products can I use for a manicure and pedicure?

If you prefer to look after your hands and feet yourself at home rather than going to a nail or beauty salon, there are several products that can help. Nail care sets, portable pedicure devices and a paraffin bath can all be used to pamper your hands and feet at home.

A manicure and pedicure set is a handy all-rounder for looking after your nails and skin. The manicure device can be used with various attachments to trim, file and polish your nails and remove cuticles. The sets often also include an attachment for removing hard skin or calluses.

Many of the devices, such as the MP 64 and MP 84, also come with a bright LED light to help you work even more precisely. What’s more, both devices can be operated with a battery. The protective nail dust cap ensures the highest hygiene standards when using your product. The manicure and pedicure set also features an attractive design and a handy storage case for the electric device and the various attachments, making it your ideal everyday companion for beautiful hands and feet.

You can enjoy soft, beautiful feet with a portable pedicure device such as the MP 59 and MP 55. A portable pedicure device is equipped with an abrasive roller with sandpaper attachment to help remove calluses and hard and rough skin on your feet. You can also opt for a device that can be used in both wet and dry conditions, such as the MP 59. Some portable pedicure devices such as the MP 55 also have an integrated LED light so you can work more carefully and precisely.

If you love painting or modelling your nails, a nail dryer like the MP 48 can be the perfect addition to your manicure and pedicure regime. A nail dryer uses powerful LEDs to dry and evenly cure gel polishes that have been applied to the nails. As such, a nail dryer is ideal for modelling artificial nails and creating your own nail designs. Various timer settings are also available, making it simple to achieve professional nail care results.

A paraffin bath helps you to care for the skin on your hands and feet, and it also moisturises your skin. A paraffin bath such as the MP 70 promotes blood circulation, and the heat expands the pores. This makes it easier for the skin to absorb the skin cream that you apply. You are left with beautiful, silky soft skin and your nails regain their shine.

The various attachments in manicure/pedicure sets

In many cases a manicure and pedicure set includes many different attachments to suit different needs. The following attachments are often included:

Beurer manicure attachment - Sapphire cone, fine

The finer sapphire cone is suitable for removing dry skin and calluses on the heel and sole of the foot, and for treating nails. However, you should never remove all calluses completely, to ensure the natural skin protection is retained.

Manicure - 4 Tips for looking after your hands

Many products are available to help you with your manicure. However, we also recommend following a few basic tips:

  • A hand bath in warm water with a little soap or shower gel for about 10 minutes not only softens your cuticles, it also softens your nails a little. This makes the treatment easier, particularly on the cuticles.
  • Following a hand bath, it’s best to start by treating the cuticles first, before the nails themselves. When treating cuticles, only remove the protruding, unwanted part.
  • When filing your nails, it is important that they are completely dry. Then file from the outside in and only ever file them in one direction to prevent cracks and fractures.
  • After your manicure, it’s best to apply a nail oil or cream to moisturise your skin and nails.

Pedicure - 4 Tips for looking after your feet

As with manicures, there are a few things to bear in mind when doing a pedicure at home if you want to achieve the best results:

  • It’s also a good idea to bathe your feet for a few minutes before the pedicure. A foot bath softens the calluses and nails and makes the treatment easier.
  • When trimming your toenails, it is important not to shorten them too much and not to round them off, or only round them off slightly. Your nail bed should always remain covered so that your nails don’t grow in.
  • If you want to remove calluses on your heel and the sole of the foot, make sure to always leave a thin layer of the callus behind as it also provides protection.
  • After a pedicure, it’s also advisable to apply a skin cream to your feet as this will keep them moisturised and make them feel even softer.
