What is a luggage scale?
A luggage scale is a handy accessory for your travels. These hand-held scales are small and compact and run on batteries, meaning you can easily take one with you and check at the airport or at the hotel before your return journey that your luggage is within the weight limits specified by your airline.
Of course, you can also weigh other items with a luggage scale, such as bags or even a bicycle. The main thing is that the object you want to weigh has a handle or a holder for attaching the scale.
How does a luggage scale measure weight?
Luggage scales are easy to use:
- Luggage scales have a belt with a hook to attach your luggage or the item you want to weigh.
- If you now lift the scale along with the object attached to it, a standardised metal spring is tensioned in the luggage scale to determine the tensile force of the attached object.
- The display of the luggage scale then shows you the weight of the luggage or item.
