Body analyser scales
25 ArticlesWhat is a body analyser scale?
A body analyser bathroom scale offers many other functions in addition to measuring your weight. Using state-of-the-art technology and bioelectrical impedance analysis to take the measurements, a body analyser scale provides a wealth of information about your body so you can analyse your body values in detail.
For example, depending on the specific scale in question you can view your BMI (body mass index), body fat values, body water, muscle percentage and bone mass. The BMR (basal metabolic rate) and AMR (active metabolic rate) can also give you a better insight into your body’s calorie consumption. Depending on the specific model, additional information may be available and displayed.
If the body analyser scale has the Connect function, you can also monitor your body values in an app and analyse them over a longer period. Based on this data, you can then take a targeted approach to ensure your physical well-being.
What distinguishes body analyser scales from personal bathroom scales?
The difference between a body analyser scale and a personal bathroom scale lies in the additional information and measurements you can obtain with a body analyser scale. Whereas a personal bathroom scale measures your weight, a diagnostic bathroom scale provides additional data such as BMI, body fat and body water. This gives you a more accurate insight into your body composition and allows you to take a more targeted approach to your goals, be it losing weight, building muscle or improving your overall health.
What values can be measured in a full-body analysis?
A body analyser scale or body fat scale can measure and display various values. Which values are measured depends on the specific scale, as each model has different functions. In addition to your weight, which all diagnostic bathroom scales display, you can view information including the following:
BMI
Body fat percentage
Body water
Muscle mass
Bone mass
BMR and AMR
What information do I need in my user profile?
In your user profile, you create your personal user under the memory space number of your choice. Enter your age, gender, body weight, height and activity level.
What activity level is right for me?
Your activity level indicates the average level of your physical activity. It is important to look at it over the medium to long term. You can choose from the following activity levels:
- Activity level 1: No physical activity
- Activity level 2: Little and light physical exertion such as light gardening or walking
- Activity level 3: 30 minutes of physical exertion at least two to four times a week
- Activity level 4: 30 minutes of physical exertion at least four to six times a week
- Activity level 5: Very high level of physical activity, i.e. you have at least one hour of intense physical exertion a day, such as intensive training or hard physical work
Choosing the activity level that best reflects your level of physical exertion will ensure you obtain reliable and meaningful readings on your body analyser scale.
Beurer Connect – body analyser scales with an app connection
If you want to monitor your body values even more closely and over a longer period, you can use a body analyser scale that has an app connection. Some of the Beurer body analyser scales offer this Connect function. With these models, your values are displayed in the app and you can view all measurements. You can also view your body value measurements from the scale in the Beurer app “HealthManager Pro” together with values measured by other Connect-enabled devices, such as your blood pressure values.
How does the body analyser scale measure my values?
The body analyser scale uses bioelectrical impedance analysis, which is based on the measurement of electrical resistance. A completely harmless, imperceptible current is sent from the electrodes on the scale and conducted through your body, whereupon the electrical resistance in your body is measured. This is then used to calculate the percentage of body fat, body water and muscle mass.
This method works because the different parts of your body tissue have a different level of electrical conductivity. Whereas muscle tissue and water have good electrical conductivity and thus a low electrical resistance, the conductivity of fatty tissue is rather poor and thus generates a high electrical resistance.
On most body analyser scales, the electrodes are located on the scale’s standing surface, which means the current is conducted through your legs via your feet.
To achieve very precise measurements, you can also use a diagnostic bathroom scale that has electrodes for your hands and feet. These measurements are more accurate as the current is not only conducted through your legs, but also through your upper body via your arms. As a result, the values for body fat and body water are not just determined from your legs and then indicated for your entire body, they are actually measured throughout your body. This gives you an even more meaningful breakdown of your actual body composition. This measurement can also show your body values in a segmented display which indicates the values for individual parts of the body.
What’s the right way to weigh myself?
As a rule, it is important that you always weigh yourself at a similar time of day to ensure your values are comparable. Also make sure to always weigh yourself under similar conditions, such as always without clothes. Furthermore, it is important to choose the right location for your scale. The scale should always be placed in the same place and on a firm, level surface. It is best to stand barefoot on the scale and make sure that your weight is evenly distributed across both feet.
