BF 980 WIFI

Proceed as follows to view your BMI value and other measurement data regarding your weight:

1. Open the "HealthManager" app.
2. Go to the "Weight" tab.
3. Select "Data" to choose a specific measurement.

Now you can see all the details of your measurement.

Please check if the scale is still connected to your smartphone. To do this, go to the Bluetooth^® settings of your smartphone. If the scale has already been added to the Bluetooth^® settings, remove it from the list. Subsequently, you can add the scale in the app according to the instructions.

Make sure that no other Bluetooth^® devices are connected to the smartphone while the scale is connected, nor are they nearby, such as smartwatches, smart TVs, or activity trackers from other manufacturers. 
The scale works with Bluetooth^® BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) signals. These can be overlaid by other Bluetooth^® signals, thereby disrupting the connection to the scale. 

Proceed as follows to transfer data from the scale to the app "HealthManager" or "HealthManager Pro": 

• Remove the scale from the app "HealthManager" or "HealthManager Pro" via Settings / Devices / If your scale is not listed, you can go directly to point 2.
• Restart your smartphone. ​​
• Open the app "HealthManager" or "HealthManager Pro" and go to Settings / Devices / Add device / Weight / BF... and follow the instructions in the app. 
• If a PIN is required, it will be shown on the scale's display. Enter the PIN in the app "HealthManager" or "HealthManager Pro".

If the connection is still not possible, you should check the compatibility of your smartphone with the device and the app. If your smartphone is not compatible, it will not be possible to pair it with the scale.

Please note that the app "HealthManager" can only manage a registered user on a smartphone or tablet.

Ideally, each user has their own smartphone or tablet and has installed the app "HealthManager".

Alternatively, you can manage multiple users via one smartphone or tablet.

Ensure that each user registers in the app with their own email address. Each user can log into the app with their email address and password after successful registration.

To use the app on a smartphone or tablet with multiple users, make sure that the correct user is logged into the app before transferring.

To make it as easy as possible for you as a user, our Connect scales feature "automatic user recognition". Once you are registered as a user on our scale, it automatically recognises you when the current weight is within 2 kg of your weight (or 3 kg or 4 kg, depending on the sensitivity setting, which can be individually adjusted via the app). Please note that therefore our diagnostic scales cannot distinguish users with the same or similar weight. This leads to the users not being correctly recognised by the scale. To adjust the sensitivity of the scale, proceed as follows: Open the app "Beurer HealthManager" and go to Settings / Devices / BF xxx / User recognition threshold. Change the setting to 2kg and proceed with a new user recognition to take over the settings.

The app automatically synchronises with the server to receive measurements via WIFI. Alternatively, the synchronisation can be manually initiated by updating the app screen (swipe down on the app screen). When new measurements are received, the app does not need to be opened.

In the smartphone settings, the scale must be removed: Settings > Bluetooth^® > BF 980 > "Ignore this device". Subsequently, the scale must be reconnected in the app "beurer HealthManager Pro".

For every user of the scale, an online account in the app "Beurer HealthManager Pro" is required. In the app, the weight must be added and during the binding process a "pre-existing user" must be selected.

To load the measurement values from the Cloud/Server into the app "beurer HealthManager Pro", an online account is necessary. The major advantage of a WIFI scale compared to a Bluetooth^® scale is that the app does not need to be open after measuring, but the measurement values are directly transferred to the Cloud/Server.

The message "FULL" appears when the internal speaker of the scale is full and the user is no longer recognised in the app to transfer the speaker.

To ensure the message no longer appears, please proceed as follows:

Please restart your smartphone and check if the user is still recognised on the scale. If this is not the case, the measurements will be stored on the scale but will no longer be transferred to the smartphone.

Open the app "HealthManager" (within the range of the scale) and navigate through Settings/Devices/BF.

Now you have reached a submenu directly on the scale.

In this menu, you select user assignment and carry out a new measurement.

The scale is now able to identify you and now also sends the measurements to your smartphone.

The "reboot" button briefly disconnects the battery for a few seconds. Then place the scale on a solid and level surface and briefly load the platform until the 0.0 kg display reappears.

The scale is ready for the Bluetooth^® connection to the app. The scale can be integrated into the app or an already integrated scale can be connected via Bluetooth^®. If not successful, press the SET button again.

After a successful user measurement (e.g., U: 1), the display of the scale initially shows the WIFI and Cloud symbol and then again the user (e.g., U: 1) is displayed. Simultaneously, the check symbol appears to confirm that the measurement has been sent to the server. If this does not function, a network test can help: For this, select the scale with the app and conduct the network test.

a) for weight without BIA analysis: Step off after the weight display on the scales
b) for weight with BIA analysis: Step off after the body fat display on the scales
c) for weight with BIA analysis and heart rate (if activated): Step off after the heart rate display on the scales

When the SET button is pressed for a long time, one can instead set the scale using the scale buttons (unit, operation mode, scale user). However, it is recommended to configure and use the app "beurer HealthManager Pro". To display "USE-APP" again on the display, press the SET button briefly multiple times until the scale switches off and then briefly press the SET button again.

The scale is connected via Bluetooth^®. Scale settings can be taken. For a measurement, the device setting is reliable (provided the app is completely closed).

When the automatic user assignment does not function (wagon display shows "U: -"), you can assign the measurement to the correct user by pressing the "^" key. This manual user assignment can be done both before and after the measurement.

The measurement could not be automatically assigned to the correct user. The reason for this is either that the measurement is outside the user assignment limit (e.g. +/- 3kg compared to the last user measurement) or that other scale users are within the same weight range, making it impossible to clearly assign the measurement. In these cases, use the “^” button on the scale to manually select the scale user (e.g.: “U: 1”).

In the app "beurer HealthManager Pro", gender, age (date of birth), and body size in the menu under "Profile data" are changed, as these values are relevant across the app. The activity level is a pure scale setting and therefore in the BF980 device settings (under "My Devices" BF980 choose and user settings) to adjust.

When a connection to the router cannot be established, the following reasons may be possible:
a) The password for the WIFI router (SSID Network name) does not match.
b) The device supports 2.4GHz. Ensure that the 2.4GHz frequency range is included in the router.
c) In the router, only standard port may be set.
d) No MAC address filter may be used in the router.
e) The following router settings are not supported by the device:

• WPS
• Unsecured/no password
• WEP
• PA2-Enterprise

f) Requirements for network name or password are not met:

• Network name/SSID: max. 32 characters
• Password: min. 8 to max. 64 characters (special characters allowed)

g) Restrictions through guest or public network.

Basically yes, however, there may be possible interruptions in these networks that could influence the functionality.

This happens when no WIFI connection can be established after the measurement. The scale then attempts to transmit the measurement via Bluetooth^®. Should this be the case, we recommend conducting a network test through the app in the device settings of the BF 980 under "Network".

Possible reasons here include:

a) During the measurement, no user is recognised (e.g., no "U: 1"). In this case, press the + button on the scale before the measurement to select the user.

b) WIFI/Bluetooth^® is turned off on the scale. In this case, press the SET button for a very long time until "unit" appears on the display. Then briefly press the SET button until "off" appears on the display, change with + or - button to "on" and confirm several times with the SET button until the scale switches off.

c) The assignment of the user between scale and app "beurer HealthManager Pro" is not given.
To establish the assignment:

• open the app "beurer HealthManager Pro"
• under "My Devices" select the BF 980
• select "User settings"
• check if the assigned scale user (e.g. "U: 1") is also the same user on the scale

If the user should not be the same, remove the scale from the app "beurer HealthManager Pro" and reconnect.

It is possible to register a new user via the scales or through the app "beurer HealthManager Pro". The latter is only possible if no BF 980 has been added in the app yet.

For every scale user, an online account in the app "beurer HealthManager Pro" is required. These accounts can be registered on the same smartphone/tablet as well as on different devices.

Diagnostic scales should not be used by individuals with electrically operated implants (e.g., pacemakers, medication pumps).

Individuals with electrically conductive implants (e.g., bone screws, hip prostheses) can use the scale. However, due to the better electrical conductivity of the implant compared to tissue, measurements may be less accurate.

The diagnostic scale should not be used during pregnancy. Due to the amniotic fluid, it can lead to measurement inaccuracies.

• Repeatability: The measurement tolerance in repeat measurements is +/- 0.4 kg (measurement several times directly one after another on the same scale with possibly the same standing position of scale and person)
• Absolute Accuracy: The measured value in comparison to a calibrated weight is +/- 1% +0.1 kg. For example, at 40 kg this corresponds to +/- 0.5 kg, at 100 kg this corresponds to +/- 1.1 kg.
• The tolerance in body fat or body water measurement is +/- 1%
• Division value: The readability of the display follows in most scales in 0.1 kg increments

In children under 10 years, the scale is not recommended, as only the weight can be accurately measured, but not the other diagnostic values, since there are no conclusive studies behind it.

Please note the following considerations of the scale. When determining body fat and further values, the results could be misleading and not plausible in:

• Children under about 10 years
• Performance athletes and bodybuilders
• Pregnant women
• Persons with fever, in daily treatment, oedema symptoms or osteoporosis
• Persons taking cardiovascular medicine (affecting heart and vascular system)
• Persons taking medication that might cause weight gain or loss
• Persons with significant anatomical deviations in the legs compared to the overall body size (legs significantly shortened or elongated).

The data is transmitted to the server using TLS (Transport Layer Security) encryption.

The connection between the vehicle and the smartphone/tablet is secured through the Bluetooth^®-compliant S.I.G. Numeric Comparison Method.

To connect the scale with the WIFI network, data such as WIFI network name and password must be transferred to the scale via Bluetooth®. Furthermore, Bluetooth® is used for the transmission of the measurement data when a WIFI connection cannot be established.

• Different weight readings can be caused by unsteady standing on the scale.
• The scale was moved or lifted between measurements, there was no correct zeroing/initialisation.
• Incorrect position on the scale, person stands slightly forward or slightly backward on the scale.
• The scale is on an uneven floor or on a carpet, which distorts the underside of the scale.
• Technical tolerances can lead to a difference between two measurements.
  Repeatability: The measurement tolerance in repeat measurements is ± 0.4 kg (measuring several times directly one after another on the same scale with possibly the same standing position of scale and person)
  Absolute accuracy: The measured value compared to a calibrated weight is ± 1% +0.1 kg.
  For example, at 40 kg this corresponds to ± 0.5 kg, at 100 kg this corresponds to ± 1.1 kg.

• Fluctuating measurements in weight measurement
• Influence of external factors such as dry air
• Motion artefact
• The user stands differently from one measurement to another on the electrodes

The various manufacturers incorporate different evaluations in the software. These evaluations can lead to differences in the measurement results. Fundamentally, one should consider the body fat measurement according to the B.I.A. method as a trend measurement and not as an absolute measurement, since the overall measurement depends on many external factors.

• Anatomical deviations (e.g. significantly shortened or elongated limbs)
• Volume of the calves compared to the thighs
• Training state of the musculature
• Abdominal wall
• Fat distribution in the body
• Health condition of the user
• Poor contact between the foot sole and electrodes
• Intense sweating
• Intake of medications
• Oedema or haematomas on the legs
• Fever
• Measurement after physical exertion
• Measurement at different times of the day
• Fluctuating body weight
• Pregnancy (amniotic fluid)
• Metal implants
• Callus on the foot sole

The sports mode is an additional function for adapting the body fat measurement to the individual conditions of a user group. In the body fat analysis, in addition to the actual measurement of the body resistance, several fixed parameters are stored in the scale's software. In normal mode, these constants reflect the average obtained in medical studies of the "normal population". Since the distribution of different body compartments (muscle tissue, bones, fat, etc.) is different in athletes than in the "normal population", the so-called sports mode was introduced. In this mode, constants that have been raised through medical studies with athletes are stored. The different measurement values thus result from the different constants in the software.

The total bone mass of a body accounts for between 12 and 15% of the body's weight. In addition to the mineral content of the bones, about 50% of their composition is water.

Please note the following information regarding bone measurement:
Our bones, like the rest of our body, are subjected to natural processes of growth, decay, and aging. The bone mass increases rapidly in childhood and reaches its maximum between 30 and 40 years of age. As age progresses, the bone mass then slightly decreases. With healthy nutrition (calcium and Vitamin D) and regular physical activity, you can counteract this loss. With targeted muscle building, you can also significantly strengthen the stability of your bone structure. Note that this measurement indicates the mineral portion of the bone. The bone mass can hardly be influenced, but it decreases slightly within the influencing factors (weight, size, age, gender). There are no recognized guidelines or recommendations available.

Caution:
Please do not confuse bone mass with bone density. Bone density can only be determined through medical examination (e.g., CT scans, ultrasound). Therefore, conclusions about changes in the bones and bone density (e.g., osteoporosis) with this measurement are not possible.

It can happen that repeated measurements lead to different readings. The measurement tolerance in repeatability concerns a personal scale +/- 0.4 kg. If your repeated measurements in this area are consistent with your scale, everything is in order. If your scale features Quick Start: Please note the following when starting: When the scale is repositioned, it calibrates itself automatically with the first measurement. In our body fat measurements, it is not the direct fat content of the body that is measured, but the resistance of the body. This means that a measurement from foot to foot is conducted, which is representative for the entire body.

Since the ratio of body fat to other body components such as bones, muscles, water, etc., changes with age, the age indication is a significant variable for determining the body fat percentage. In the age indication, a value derived from medical studies is embedded in the software. This means that the age indication according to this underlying value is included in the fat calculation.

With the help of a mathematical equation, the body fat percentage is then calculated (software). The following values are included in the equation: body height, weight, gender, age and the body resistance. Additionally, 3 constants are included in the equation, which were determined through comparative studies (clinical studies). The variables and the constants are combined and the body fat percentage is displayed in percent on the display.

Since water is contained in both bones and muscles, cumulative values of over 100% can also arise. Should the calculated values (body fat/water) be in the upper limit range, an accurate determination of the measurement values is not possible and the percentage figures are omitted.

Please note that your scale has a Quick-Start function. This means that your scale begins weighing as soon as you step onto it. Pre-weighing is not necessary. If you have moved the scale between weighings, the device may have a different zero point, and deviations from the previous measurement may occur. To display the correct result, proceed as follows:

• Turn on the scale at the new location
• Wait until the scale automatically turns off without using the scale 
• Restart the scale
• Wait until the display shows "0.0 kg"

Now the scale is ready for a new measurement.
