To make it as easy as possible for you as a user, our Connect scales feature "automatic user recognition". Once you are registered as a user on our scale, it automatically recognises you when the current weight is within 2 kg of your weight (or 3 kg or 4 kg, depending on the sensitivity setting, which can be individually adjusted via the app). Please note that therefore our diagnostic scales cannot distinguish users with the same or similar weight. This leads to the users not being correctly recognised by the scale. To adjust the sensitivity of the scale, proceed as follows: Open the app "Beurer HealthManager" and go to Settings / Devices / BF xxx / User recognition threshold. Change the setting to 2kg and proceed with a new user recognition to take over the settings.

The message "FULL" appears when the internal speaker of the scale is full and the user is no longer recognised in the app to transfer the speaker.

To ensure the message no longer appears, please proceed as follows:

Please restart your smartphone and check if the user is still recognised on the scale. If this is not the case, the measurements will be stored on the scale but will no longer be transferred to the smartphone.

Open the app "HealthManager" (within the range of the scale) and navigate through Settings/Devices/BF.

Now you have reached a submenu directly on the scale.

In this menu, you select user assignment and carry out a new measurement.

The scale is now able to identify you and now also sends the measurements to your smartphone.

Diagnostic scales should not be used by individuals with electrically operated implants (e.g., pacemakers, medication pumps).

Individuals with electrically conductive implants (e.g., bone screws, hip prostheses) can use the scale. However, due to the better electrical conductivity of the implant compared to tissue, measurements may be less accurate.

The diagnostic scale should not be used during pregnancy. Due to the amniotic fluid, it can lead to measurement inaccuracies.

• Repeatability: The measurement tolerance in repeat measurements is +/- 0.4 kg (measurement several times directly one after another on the same scale with possibly the same standing position of scale and person)
• Absolute Accuracy: The measured value in comparison to a calibrated weight is +/- 1% +0.1 kg. For example, at 40 kg this corresponds to +/- 0.5 kg, at 100 kg this corresponds to +/- 1.1 kg.
• The tolerance in body fat or body water measurement is +/- 1%
• Division value: The readability of the display follows in most scales in 0.1 kg increments

In children under 10 years, the scale is not recommended, as only the weight can be accurately measured, but not the other diagnostic values, since there are no conclusive studies behind it.

Please note the following considerations of the scale. When determining body fat and further values, the results could be misleading and not plausible in:

• Children under about 10 years
• Performance athletes and bodybuilders
• Pregnant women
• Persons with fever, in daily treatment, oedema symptoms or osteoporosis
• Persons taking cardiovascular medicine (affecting heart and vascular system)
• Persons taking medication that might cause weight gain or loss
• Persons with significant anatomical deviations in the legs compared to the overall body size (legs significantly shortened or elongated).

• Different weight readings can be caused by unsteady standing on the scale.
• The scale was moved or lifted between measurements, there was no correct zeroing/initialisation.
• Incorrect position on the scale, person stands slightly forward or slightly backward on the scale.
• The scale is on an uneven floor or on a carpet, which distorts the underside of the scale.
• Technical tolerances can lead to a difference between two measurements.

• Fluctuating measurements in weight measurement
• Influence of external factors such as dry air
• Motion artefact
• The user stands differently from one measurement to another on the electrodes

The various manufacturers incorporate different evaluations in the software. These evaluations can lead to differences in the measurement results. Fundamentally, one should consider the body fat measurement according to the B.I.A. method as a trend measurement and not as an absolute measurement, since the overall measurement depends on many external factors.

• Anatomical deviations (e.g. significantly shortened or elongated limbs)
• Volume of the calves compared to the thighs
• Training state of the musculature
• Abdominal wall
• Fat distribution in the body
• Health condition of the user
• Poor contact between the foot sole and electrodes
• Intense sweating
• Intake of medications
• Oedema or haematomas on the legs
• Fever
• Measurement after physical exertion
• Measurement at different times of the day
• Fluctuating body weight
• Pregnancy (amniotic fluid)
• Metal implants
• Callus on the foot sole

The sports mode is an additional function for adapting the body fat measurement to the individual conditions of a user group. In the body fat analysis, in addition to the actual measurement of the body resistance, several fixed parameters are stored in the scale's software. In normal mode, these constants reflect the average obtained in medical studies of the "normal population". Since the distribution of different body compartments (muscle tissue, bones, fat, etc.) is different in athletes than in the "normal population", the so-called sports mode was introduced. In this mode, constants that have been raised through medical studies with athletes are stored. The different measurement values thus result from the different constants in the software.

The total bone mass of a body accounts for between 12 and 15% of the body's weight. In addition to the mineral content of the bones, about 50% of their composition is water.

Please note the following information regarding bone measurement:
Our bones, like the rest of our body, are subjected to natural processes of growth, decay, and aging. The bone mass increases rapidly in childhood and reaches its maximum between 30 and 40 years of age. As age progresses, the bone mass then slightly decreases. With healthy nutrition (calcium and Vitamin D) and regular physical activity, you can counteract this loss. With targeted muscle building, you can also significantly strengthen the stability of your bone structure. Note that this measurement indicates the mineral portion of the bone. The bone mass can hardly be influenced, but it decreases slightly within the influencing factors (weight, size, age, gender). There are no recognized guidelines or recommendations available.

Caution:
Please do not confuse bone mass with bone density. Bone density can only be determined through medical examination (e.g., CT scans, ultrasound). Therefore, conclusions about changes in the bones and bone density (e.g., osteoporosis) with this measurement are not possible.

It can happen that repeated measurements lead to different readings. The measurement tolerance in repeatability concerns a personal scale +/- 0.4 kg. If your repeated measurements in this area are consistent with your scale, everything is in order. If your scale features Quick Start: Please note the following when starting: When the scale is repositioned, it calibrates itself automatically with the first measurement. In our body fat measurements, it is not the direct fat content of the body that is measured, but the resistance of the body. This means that a measurement from foot to foot is conducted, which is representative for the entire body.

Since the ratio of body fat to other body components such as bones, muscles, water, etc., changes with age, the age indication is a significant variable for determining the body fat percentage. In the age indication, a value derived from medical studies is embedded in the software. This means that the age indication according to this underlying value is included in the fat calculation.

With the help of a mathematical equation, the body fat percentage is then calculated (software). The following values are included in the equation: body height, weight, gender, age and the body resistance. Additionally, 3 constants are included in the equation, which were determined through comparative studies (clinical studies). The variables and the constants are combined and the body fat percentage is displayed in percent on the display.

Since water is contained in both bones and muscles, cumulative values of over 100% can also arise. Should the calculated values (body fat/water) be in the upper limit range, an accurate determination of the measurement values is not possible and the percentage figures are omitted.

Please note that your scale has a Quick-Start function. This means that your scale begins weighing as soon as you step onto it. Pre-weighing is not necessary. If you have moved the scale between weighings, the device may have a different zero point, and deviations from the previous measurement may occur. To display the correct result, proceed as follows:

• Turn on the scale at the new location
• Wait until the scale automatically turns off without using the scale 
• Restart the scale
• Wait until the display shows "0.0 kg"

Now the scale is ready for a new measurement.
