The temperature of a healthy person is influenced by the following factors:

• the individual, personal metabolic rate
• age (body temperature is higher in infants and young children and decreases with increasing age. In children, temperature fluctuations occur more quickly and frequently)
• clothing
• the outside temperature
• the time of day (in the morning the body temperature is lower and rises over the course of the day)
• previous physical and, to a lesser extent, mental activity

Expert tip: The temperature measurement provides a reading that gives an indication of a person's current body temperature. If you are unsure about the interpretation of the results or if abnormal values occur (e.g., fever), you should consult your GP. This also applies to minor temperature changes if additional symptoms of illness are present, such as restlessness, excessive sweating, skin irritation, high pulse rate, collapse, etc.

The display "Lo" in combination with the degree symbol "°C" indicates that the thermometer is ready for measurement. This display does not provide any information about the charging status of the installed battery. If the display shows "Lo" or "Hi" alone, the thermometer indicates that the measured temperature is too low or too high. You can find the respective range for each thermometer in the user manual.

Different thermometers are suitable for measuring body temperature at various body parts.
Forehead thermometer: Measurement only at the forehead; Ear thermometer: Measurement only in the ear; Conventional thermometer: rectal measurement (in the rectum), axial (under the armpit) or oral measurement (in the mouth).

Depending on the body part where the measurement is taken, the temperature value can vary. The deviation can be between 0.2 °C and 1 °C in healthy individuals at different body sites. Thus, the normal temperature range is:

• Forehead temperature – measured with a forehead thermometer: 35.8 °C to 37.6 °C
• Ear temperature – measured with an ear thermometer: 36.0 °C to 37.8 °C
• Rectally measured temperature – measured with a conventional thermometer: 36.3 °C to 37.8 °C
• Orally measured temperature – measured with a conventional thermometer: 36.0 °C to 37.4 °C

Beurer Tip:
Temperatures measured with different thermometers should not be compared with each other. Therefore, inform your doctor or consider when self-diagnosing which thermometer you used to measure body temperature at which location.
