The usual values for normal blood pressure are:

• Upper limit values: Systole 140 mmHg / Diastole 90 mmHg
• Ideal values: Systole 120 mmHg / Diastole 80 mmHg

The measurement on the wrist joint must be done so that the wrist is at the level of the heart. If the arm is laid flat on the table in a sitting position, for example, the blood pressure is overestimated by about 7-8 mmHg because there is a difference to the height of the heart (1.5 cm corresponds to 1 mmHg).

Faulty measurement results can also arise during wrist joint measurement in cases of heart rhythm disturbances and changes in the arteries at the wrist joint (e.g., age-related). In particular, in older people, wrist joint measurements can therefore sometimes provide inaccurate results. The arteries at the upper arm are not as sensitive to such influences. Therefore, comparative measurements at the upper arm are recommended.

At the start of many of our blood pressure monitors, the device automatically performs a brief self-test and displays the full display during this phase. However, this display does not indicate the charging status of the battery. Only when the corresponding error message described in the operating instructions is shown on the display, is a battery replacement necessary.

Please note that for most devices, the date and time can only be set when they are switched off. Therefore, leave the device in the switched-off state and proceed as described in the usage instructions. Typically, there are two different ways to access the menu for setting adjustments:

1. When using the device for the first time or whenever batteries are newly inserted, most devices automatically enter the corresponding menu.
2. With already inserted batteries, one of the function keys must be held down for a certain time while the device is off. Details on the procedure can be found in the operating instructions.

Please ensure that the tab on the left side is inserted correctly.
Also check whether the batteries are correctly inserted and also fully charged. Depending on storage duration, the batteries might discharge.

Before each measurement and between successive measurements, a pause of at least one minute should be taken.

The Beurer blood pressure monitors are already calibrated in software. During production, they are tested for accuracy at 100%. Recalibration is not necessary.

Experts advise against automatic oscillometric blood pressure measurement in children and recommend measurement using the classic Riva-Rocci method with a stethoscope. For this reason, we do not offer any cuffs for children for our fully automatic blood pressure monitors.

Blood pressure and pulse are dependent on many factors that can also have a short-term influence:

• Short-term influences
• Mental influences
• Physical movement
• Muscle tension
• Speech
• Excitement
• Noise etc.

Furthermore, the correct application of the blood pressure monitor is of high importance for reliable and accurate measurement results. Application errors during measurement can have a significant influence on the accuracy of the measurement:

• The cuff was too tight / too loose
• The cuff is not at heart level
• Too short a pause between measurements
• No optical or acoustic isolation of the specimen

Naturally, device tolerances also come into play. With devices with a manometer (pressure gauge), the parallax error (reading error) additionally occurs. Please ensure that at least a 1-minute pause is taken between consecutive measurements.

Blood pressure values, which are measured in the medical practice by the doctor themselves or by the practice staff using the standardised Riva-Rocci method through listening to the so-called Korotkoff sounds, are usually somewhat higher than those obtained through self-measurement in a relaxed domestic atmosphere. One speaks of a "practice" or "white coat hypertension". People who have elevated blood pressure under the stress of everyday conditions can show normal values under the calm conditions at the doctor's. Here one speaks of "practice-normotension".
