How to measure correctly:
Avoid incorrect blood glucose values by following these basic rules:
- You should obtain current blood glucose values only from the finger
pad, because the blood circulation is higher here than at the
alternative measuring sites like upper arm and forearm, thigh and calf.
- If you have problems with the blood circulation of the hands, we
recommend massaging the fingers before washing. The same applies to
measurement at alternative body sites.
- As far as possible, wash the hands with warm water before
withdrawing blood. It not only contributes to hygiene but also the
blood circulation. With poorer blood circulation blood withdrawal is
more difficult, because you have to penetrate deeper to get the small
drop of blood.
- In addition, poor blood circulation can lead to incorrect measuring
values, because the oxygen saturation of the blood is lowered, which
can influence the reaction on the test strip.
- Dry your hands carefully. The prick site must not be moist because
the liquid dilutes the blood test and also leads to incorrect values.
- Always change the prick site, e.g. other fingers or the other hand.
Repeated pricks in the same place can cause inflammations,
insensitivity or cicatrisations.
- Do not prick right in the middle of the finger pad, because there
the finger is the most sensitive - always put on slightly at the side.
- Do not use the branch cap (transparent) for the blood withdrawal from the finger.
- Never squeeze the finger to get a bigger drop of blood. While
squeezing the blood is diluted with lymph and this can lead to an
incorrect measuring result.
- Do not smear the drop of blood. A smeared drop cannot be taken up by the test strip.
- Please note that the interface for the blood exposure to the test
strip is at the edge of the test strip point not on the surface. Lead
the finger to the point / the edge of the test strip where the bright
bar is. The capillary effect will automatically draw the drop.
- Compare the code on the test strip box with the code on the display
before measurement. It appears automatically after you have inserted
the test strips in the shaft. Should these two figures not be
identical, then firstly encode the device.
- Remove the test strip from the box shortly before you measure. The test strips are sensitive to humidity.
- Incidentally, you can touch the test strip everywhere with clean and dry fingers.
- Always
hold the test strip box firmly closed. In this box there is a coating
which keeps the test strips dry. Never fill the test strips into
another container.
- Keep the test strips at normal ambient temperature. Do not put the
test strips in the fridge. The safe temperature is from +4 to +40 °C.
- Never leave the test strip box in the sun.
- Measure at ambient temperature (in the range +10 to +40 °C). Before
measuring bring the blood glucose monitor and the test strips to
ambient temperature.
